Who is This Person and Why are They Important? | Answer

Well Boys and Girls, it looks like VB or Vegas Bob has done his homework this week and gets a Gold Star or an AttaBoy gold star for his answer on my recent post: Who is This Person and Why are They Important?  VB, did you figure out my suttle hint?  If so, keep it to yourself.

With the new school year starting next week, coupled along with ActiveRain's current Back to School contest to which you can still get your entries in until September the 4th.  And also as a way to get some buzz going about one of my favorite groups on ActiveRain that is still a fledgling group, Statues around the World.  I thought it would be fun to start a series of weekly post once a week, kind of like a Wordless Wednesday or Speechless Sunday.  I may even start posting them on or in Wordless Wednesday.

As I said the other day to get your brain revved up for the new school year, parent, teachers and students a like, that I thought it would be fun if my series was about famous landmarks located both here in North Texas as well as places around the country and the world where I have visitied.  In most cases, these landmarks will be statues of some kind or what would qualify as a statue.  I will keep posting as I said until I run out of pictures to post, so come back often with your guesses and please provide as much information in your comment as possible, lets make this a history lesson each and every time.  That way we will all learn more about the communities around us.

So who is the famous person and why are they important?

Samuel Adams

Click on the picutre to find out, disclaimer, the picture above was actually taken by John Hrisco of John Hrisco & Associates.  And not some person on Flickr.  I have the wrong date, it was taken in May of 2009.

Also in putting together this answer for you, I came across a very cool site called NPS.gov.  I literally could get lost on that site, never to be heard from again, because I love history.  Notice, that I am not posting the answer here entirely because I want you to click on the image above as well as the link in this paragraph and read about the history behind the statue it self and where it is located.

Also, I didn't want you to miss the interesting facts I found on the pdfs linked on the above page, so I will include them here:

Faneuil Hall, What's Original?

Check out the What's Original link and the part about the Eagle scuplture and what is is made of, how do you make a sculpture ot of horshair and oyster shells?  I hoped you enjoyed this first addition in my back to school series of famous landmarks.  I am excited by the comments and participation on this first post in my series and look forward to everyone's participation on my future post in this series.  Until next week.  Time to go Green.  You'll see why.
